Session Report
The session began in the crowded Brown Lagoon Saloon, with Antonio, Long John, and Jolly exchanging rumors over pints. They discussed the opening of the Dark Carnival at Jeff Co Tower and the closure of the city’s fight clubs. Jolly mentioned strange monsters lurking in the woods, and Long John worried about Dr. Saget potentially enforcing a city lockdown due to the spreading viral disease. Antonio proposed a guild contract to sabotage the “Gitanic,” a smuggling vessel harming the Rustic Hand’s operations.
The party purchased lanterns and oil from a general store to carry out their plan. While traveling, they discovered two dead homeless men with a leather pouch branded “C.M.” Long John checked for signs of life, confirming their deaths, and the party pressed on toward the Lumberjack Union. There, Jolly learned that the Union was actually a secret monster-hunting guild. After successfully completing a trial, Jolly was recruited and given a patch; Long John also joined, gaining access to secret city exits. Antonio declined recruitment but remained an essential ally.
The harbor operation was tense and dangerous. Antonio hid in a crate aboard the “Gitanic,” while Long John distracted the laborers by questioning them about the ship’s cannons. Jolly assisted in creating chaos on the pier. Antonio set flammable objects ablaze inside the ship, igniting a fire that quickly spread to the deck. Most guards fled, but some attempted to pursue him. Antonio narrowly escaped the burning ship, diving into the water, and was rescued by Long John and Jolly using a rope and flaming oil to block the pier.
Once safe, the party navigated the city sewers to escape notice. Along the way, they encountered homeless people consuming glowing mushrooms and a mysterious vagabond who revealed legends of a bright metal mined deep beneath the city, eaten by subterranean creatures. They survived encounters with giant mosquitos and were unable to open locked iron doors, eventually exiting near the Brown Lagoon Saloon.
The group then set out for the Dark Carnival near Jeff Co Tower. Three days into their journey, they were ambushed by wolves at night. In a chaotic sequence, Antonio attempted to drop a burning branch on the wolves, but accidentally ignited himself and fell, killing one wolf and himself. Jolly and Long John defended themselves, with Long John surviving and Jolly managing to protect him. Antonio’s body was later recovered and buried at Shrewsbury.
The session concluded with the party continuing toward Shrewsbury for rest and downtime, planning to regroup and pursue leads on the Dark Carnival and other ongoing investigations.
