Session Report

The party began the session celebrating the death of Adolfus at the Brown Lagoon Saloon. While there, Benny Goldpenny was assassinated. Additionally, the party suspected the cleric had poisoned Long John rather than healed him, and Antonio was confronted by Sir Chaz.

The session started the day after Adolfus’s execution. The Brown Lagoon Saloon, a reliable tavern known for its beer and hot slop, was filled with celebration. While enjoying drinks with their new cleric companion Mozeus, the party heard glass breaking, a thud, and screams.

On the floor lay a middle-aged man in a goldenrod vest and pants—Benny Goldpenny. A small crowd surrounded him, but no one appeared emotionally attached. Mozeus convinced the party to investigate, and they found keys, identification, and a handful of platinum in his pockets. They kept the keys and ID but left the platinum, also removing the crossbow bolt lodged in his neck.

The party deduced the shot came from the rooftops but saw no one. The bolt was marked with a geometrically-square skull—the symbol of a legendary, unnamed hitman who operates outside guild protocols.

Mozeus suggested taking the identification to the Exchange to locate Goldpenny’s address. On the way, city guards stopped them. Antonio refused to speak but handed over the bolt and keys. The guards escorted them to the Exchange, confirmed the assassination, and promised a reward and a “homeless license” if they caught the assassin or provided evidence leading to the arrest. Antonio, living on the streets, received a one-time pass for this offense.

While leaving the Grand Exchange, Long John expressed his suspicion that the cleric had cursed him instead of healing him. He convinced the group to confront her at the Sink.

On the way, Sillius recognized a mage from his school, Ham Cunningham. Ham was anxious and brief, instructing Sillius to meet him at the Big Dangler Tavern in two weeks.

At the Sink, the party searched the Spam n’ Salmon for the cleric. Antonio became distracted by a slap game. Long John found the cleric upstairs but was confronted by her three large guards. After a failed scimitar attack, Long John was thrown into a wall, and the cleric and guards departed. Long John vowed to report them to the Church.

The party then visited the Golden Apple Hotel, noted for its classical Greek architecture and massive columns. Barnesworth guided them through the hotel services. The party noticed their room key resembled Goldpenny’s and tried to access his room. Sillius created a distraction at the front desk, claiming the room’s tapestries were offensive. He received a free drink and joined the others at the bar. They retired for the night, paying 5 gp each, planning their next moves.

Before reaching his room, Antonio was confronted by Sir Chaz, who mocked him and his horse and accused him of using magic steroids. The next morning, the party went to the stables to register two horses for racing. The stablemaster, Mr. Cobblestone, informed Antonio the inspection would take a week and cost 20 gp.

They then went to the Church to report the female cleric. The Church granted them permission to citizen-arrest any female clerics practicing unauthorized magic. The party had lunch at the Big Dangler to familiarize themselves with the location for Sillius’s upcoming meeting with Ham Cunningham.

The session came to an end soon after, and the party submitted their downtime.
